Does Remeron Help In The Treatment Of Insomnia?

My Mom is 90 yrs old and has moderately severe dementia--recently diagnosed. Her main complaint is that she doesn t sleep, so the Dr prescribed Remeron first at 7.5 mg at night and then at 30 mg per night. I know this is an antidepressive, but does it aid in sleep?

hello there, remeron is trade name of mirtazapine which is an antidepressant. It has some sedating property also. however it is not given for sleep disturbance only. If your mother is suffering from dementia then best treatment for her would be tab donepezil and tab zolpidem for sleep.
