Does Retin A Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes?

my blood test came back with elevated liver enzymes AST (SGOT) 42 & ALT (SGPT) 38. Six months ago my test was AST (SGOT) 38 & ALT (SGPT) 38. The doctor wants to re-test in 1 month after I stop all supplements. I have been a Retin-A user for many years. I forgot to ask if i should stop using it as well. Could Retin-A cause my levels to increase. My blood sugar level six months ago was 101 but now is 98. both blood tests were after fasting.

Hi thanks for asking question.

I appreciate your concern.

First normal value of liver enzymes up to 42.
If value above 42 then it is considered significant.

As your doctor said yes after 1 month repeat enzymes value.

For just now I will say it is not elevated.

Long term use of retain A can affect liver.
But just now it has not affected liver.

So if after few days enzymes value increased then stop it.

As far as sugar is concerned.Your fasting blood sugar within normal limit.Normally it should be below 100.

Maintain sugar level by healthy life style and regular exercise.Repeat yearly or 6 monthly.

I hope your specific concerned solved.

Wish you good health.
