I work in a county jail and I have an inmate taking Risperidal. His mental Health symptoms are being managed quite well however, he saw a commercial about how men are developing breasts and he is worried this will happen to him. He is going to see our doctor however, I wanted to respond to his concern so he doesn t just stop taking the medication. YYYY@YYYY
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Risperdal is an antipsychotic medicine which contains risperidone. Risperdal is used to treat schizophrenia and symptoms of bipolar disorder such as manic depression. Common side effect with the use of this drug (1% to 10%) is Hyperprolactinemia (high prolactin levels). In about 0.1% to 1%, it can produce effects like Gynecomastia, galactorrhea, breast pain and discomfort. Kindly consult your doctor to review the symptoms inmate is having. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
