I have always been thin. I m 5 4 and never weighed over 120 lb. I m now on Salfazine (9 tablets a day) for Crohn s. I ve been on Salfazine for about 5 months, and now weigh 135. Can t seem to find an answer if Salfazine is what s causing weight gain.
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. Sulfazine is used to treat a certain type of bowel disease called ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. This medication does not cure this condition, but it helps decrease symptoms such as fever, stomach pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. It works by reducing irritation and swelling in the large intestines.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. More common side effects of this drug are: -Aching of joints -fever -headache (continuing) -increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight -skin rash or itching -vomiting Weight gain is found among people who take Sulfazine, especially for people who are female, 50-59 old, have been taking the drug for 1 - 6 months, also take medication omeprazole, and have Rheumatoid arthritis. Hope it helped! Best Regards
