Does Sinemet Help To Treat A Person With Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration?

My 67 year old sister has corticobasal ganglionic degeneration. She was being medicated with sinemet when they THOUGHT it was Parkinson s. Her new neurologist has weaned her off this medication because it has not affect on CBD patients. She is off it entirely after several months of weaning. Recently, she is blaming the lack of this medication as to why she is declining (where unfortunately, I think her disease is progressing (she has had it for 3 years; can no longer walk, no balance to even stand on her own, slurred speech, and one hand is useless/other is weak. Could this drug have actually been helping her?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sinemet can help in persons who have rigidity of their muscles; it does not slow down progression but can help in this way. If this is not one of her complaints or issues then it would not be helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
