Does Spironolactone Cause Hyper Sensitivity In The Nipples?
I am currently taking 25MG of Spironolactone. I am noticing some sensitivity in both my breast nipples. I am also experiencing the similar type of pain and sensitivity on my right upper rib area under my armpit on the side of my breast. I was told that this drug can cause some Male Breast enlargement. Is this pain and sensitivity a result of the drug? Are there any substitutable drugs that will not react on me in this way? Thank You Steve Pagano
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, breast pain, gynecomastia and sexual function problems are known side effects of Spironolactone. As for the replacement medication, you need to tell us why the medicine was started in the first place. Many medicines are given in a multitude of conditions and replacement medication would depend on the diagnosis, which is not mentioned in your message. So do let us know the required detail for further information.
Best wishes.
