Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
does spironolactone interfere with dofetilide? I take the latter following cardioversion after being in AFib for over a year. I have remained in sinus rhythm for several months but experienced serious edema. I had to stop taking chlorthalidone because it interferes with dofetilide. I see both an electrphysiologist and a general cardiologist. The latter recently switched my bp meds to Coreg and spironolactone from metoprolol and furanoside. It has helped a great deal, but I read that qt inerval might be affected?
There is no known reaction between sprinolactone and dofetilide. The two drugs vary in how they interact with your cardiovascular system and heart itself.
Dofetilide is class III anti-arrhythmic and Sprinolactone is a diuretic. Dofetilide does require an EKG before use because if you already have a lengthened QT interval it can cause serious problems.
They will most likely monitor your QT interval on other occasions to make sure you stay within the normal range. The two drugs do not have any known interactions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Alexander Underwood
