Does Tegretol Prescribed For Epilepsy Cause Muscle Spasms?

I have Dystonia and Epilepsy. I ve been subscribed Lamotrigine by one neurologist and Tegretol by a second neurologist as a treatment for the Epilepsy. I started on the Lamotrigine first 6 Months ago) and my Dystonia muscle spasms have gotten worse over the last month (after 5 months on the Lamotrigine). I had Deep brain stimulation surgery to treat the Dystonia (which was successful in controlling the muscle spasms). Should I be on the Tegretol instead? I ve researched and discovered that both have muscle spasms as a side effect.

No both drugs do not have muscle spasms and both drugs can be combined to have an added on effect to have better effect. In rare occasion single drug may not fully control fits. If i have to treat such a patient i will advice if such patient is not fully controlled with a single drug , he should have add on therapy with second drug to lead a normal life. Rest your neurologist can also guide you.
