Does Trimethoprim Reduce The Effectiveness Of Microgynon Contraceptive Pill?
I am currently on a 2 month course of trimethoprim for recurrent UTI? I am also on microgynon contraceptive pill and have been having unprotected sex. Does this antibiotic decrease the effectiveness of the pill as I am now getting paranoid that this will stop the effectiveness and I might become pregnant.

Trimethoprim will decrease the level or effect of ethinylestradiol by altering intestinal flora. So there is a small chance of contraception failure and therefore it may be better to have protected sex during the unsafe days of the menstrual cycle.
