Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How likely is one to get an allergic reaction to Tylenol Extra Strength? I have itching all over my body and have had so for the last 3 months. I take 1,000 mg. twice a day for chronic pain and had my kidney and liver function tests done recently and they were excellent. I ve been taking it for a year now for chronic pain from a fractured shoulder. I have lots of drug allergies and can t take NSAID s. Thank you. Janna Rood

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Tynelol is comparatively safer pain & fever medication. Safe even in pregnancy, babies & old age. It can cause itching with rashes on the skin with sometimes swelling especially on the face. It's maximum recommended dose being 4 GM's/day.
You are quite within the limit of dosage only thing is it's been taken for a long time which might have caused due skin which produces itching without any rash (not seem to be an allergy.)
I would suggest drinking a lot of water daily. Apply moisturiser to skin & if there is no relief in a week's time. Consult your doctor for a change of medication. Again NSAIDs have more chance of side effects & needs to be observed to exclude allergy under your doctor's guidance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
