Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I came of the contreceptive pill in janurary this year, since stopping taking the pill i have had no periods. I have been prescribed utovlan to introduce a normal period cycle. In my case would taking this medication possibly make me more frrtile increasing the chance of me becomin pregnant
I understand your concern. Delayed period for two to three cycles after getting off the pill is a normal occurrence. However, it must be said that the contraceptive pill on its own does not make any changes in the usual cycle but it can mask an absence or irregularity in the cycle. I'm sure your doctor must have made sure you are not pregnant and must ordered blood tests prior to prescribing Utovlan to fonde out the reason behind your absence of menstruation. Utovlan is a synthetic hormone similar to the naturally occurring female hormone Progesterone. It is usually given to induce the menstrual cycle or treat cycle irregularities. Most probably your period should return next month, but if this is not the case, you need to go back to your doctor and undergo the necessary tests to find out the cause.
Wishing you good health and all the best
