Does Valacyclovir Cause Pins And Needles Sensation In Hands And Feet?
Hello, I am a male, age 41. I am 5ft 10in and 183 lbs, athletic. I have no prior health problems. On Oct 7, 2011 i started coming down with a sinus infection. Tues Oct 11 I started taking Amoxicillin. Thursday morning Oct 13, I came down with Bells Palsy was diagnosed Frday Oct 14. Doc has me on 80mg of prednisonr for 7 days, then 40mg for 3 days, 1 tab for 3 days and finaly 1/2 tab for 2 days. Doc also has me on 1 GM of valacyclovir 2x per day for 7 days. My concern is that within a day of starting the treatment my hands and feet have a bad pins and needles sensation...all day and night. I do have a follow up with my Doc tomorrow. Just wanted any thoughts. Do any of the meds I am taking cause these side effects? Thank you
Valacyclovir, which is given off label in treatment of Bell's Palsy, should not cause pins and needles sensation in hands and feet. None of the other medications you mentioned in this post would cause pins and needles sensation in hands and feet. On the other hand, certain viral infections can cause these symptoms. I would recommend wait and watch approach and contact your doctor again if your symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
