Does Vicks Vaporub Cause Nose Bleeds?

My 16 yr. old daughter has been sick with a fever, throat sore and a lot of mucus. Her fever is down to a slight temp however she has been getting nose bleeds. We have been using Vicks vapor rub on her chest, neck and back (not on face) twice a day and she has been taking Tylenol ( 1 tablet) and Motrin (1 tablet) not at the same time every 4 to 6 hours. We are using a cold mist humidifier and saline spray to keep her nose moist. She is drinking plenty of water. My question is could her nose bleed be from the vapor rub?

Hi,
As you mentioned, your daughter is suffering from upper respiratory tract infection.
During any infection, the blood supply to the infected part increases.
In case of nose, the mucosa will have excessive blood supply and is friable. Any small insult like blowing the nose, sneezing causes minor breaks in the mucosa leading the blood out.
This might be the reason for nose bleed.
Small spotting should invoke any intervention, but if it's massive then you should take her to an ENT surgeon.
