My 10 year old son started taking vyvanse 20mg 2 weeks ago with no side effects but the teachers at school don’t see a difference in his adhd. Doctor doubled dose to 40mg and now he is having a cough, racing heart , palpitations... is this normal? I’m concerned because he plays basketball and Is very active outside ... can this rapid heart rate become life threatening with all his activities?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The medication is a stimulant and it can cause palpitations/racing heart beat. You may want to consider speaking to his doctor to find out if he can use an alternative. If the heart rate is very high, it is possible that it may affect him during his activities.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
