Does Wellbutrin XL Lose Its Efficacy When Taken For A Prolonged Period?
I have been taking Welbutrin XL for over four or five years now. Take two pills a day of 150mg. I have taken antidepressants for over twenty plus years. They were prescribe after experiencing periods of depression from time to time. Here as of late I am beginning to wonder if the medicine might be losing its effectiveness for me. I am currently feeling a bit out of sorts and wondering if perhaps a change in medication might produce a jolt or two to get back in the groove of things. Don t have an idea as to what medication might do the trick for me.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Taking one antidepressant for prolonged period of time can reduce its effectiveness. And the symptoms you are experiencing now is concerning for rebound depression. Please be advised to follow up with your psychiatrist to switch to another antidepressant or increase the dose of Wellbutrin.
Hope this answers your questions. Please let me know if you need further clarification.
