Does Xanax Cause Extreme Confusion And Suicidal Thoughts?

A friend of mine has committed suicide. He was going through a stressful time and I found out that he had started using Xanax .25mg twice daily to help him with his condition. I ve read that some of the rare side effects or Xanax are confusion and thoughts of suicide. If a person taking the drug as prescribed is experiencing these side effects, would he able to realise that these thoughts and feelings are coming from the drug and is he able to seek help (to doctor or loved ones). Does Xanax alter reality perception and consciousness? Or, would the Xanax side effects contribute to existing feelings of suicide and lead to it?

Hello,

Xanax , as i understand is Alprazolam, is a high potency anxiolytic.
Along with this, it has some mood elevating action in mild depression and is particularly useful in anxiety associated with depression.
Dizziness , drowsiness are some noted side effects.

Serious side effects like mental/mood changes incluiding hallucinations and suicidal thoughts are actually unheard of .

So, commitment of suicide cant be attributed to Xanax in my opinion.
