Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Xanax Intake By An Infant Cause Any Dangerous Side Effects?
I dropped a prescribed .5 milligram Xanax on the floor (accidentally) and my 16 month old son ate half of it and spit it out. I found half of if wet minutes ago so know that he has consumed approximately .25 miligrams. This was maybe 20 minutes ago. He seems to be fine right now. What should I do?
There I have read through your question and understand your concern.
Xanax contains Alprazolam which is a Benzodiazepine. Since you have mentioned that your son didn't ingest the complete pill, I don't think there is anything to worry about. Since it was a low dose pill and he didn't ingest it completely, it won't have any serious effect on him. Just keep him under observation for a few hours.
I hope that answers your query. If you have any further questions, please feel free to write to me.
Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.
Take care
