Does Zoloft Cause Acne On The Face And Excessive Sebum Production?

I currently take Zoloft and recently, lithium. I started last year. Shortly after starting it, I noticed some bumps on the front thigh area of my legs. They were raised and quite noticeable to me. For the past couple of months, I have been experiencing acne on my face. Along the jaw line, forehead, and increased oil buildup around my nose. This was never a problem for me before. Is it the medicine?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query you have symptoms of acne on the face and excessive sebum production while on Zoloft which seems to be due to side effects of medicine and allergic reaction . As you are taking antidepressants medicine,which can also cause side effects so consult doctor who prescribed it. I would suggest you to wash your face with face wash containing benzoyl peroxide twice a day and then apply cream containing azelaic acid twice a day after washing face . Exfoliate your skin once week to remove the dead skin. Keep your face dust free and prevent it from excessive sun exposure. If condition doesn't get well in a month then consult dermatologits for proper examination. Doctor will examine physically and order blood tests and prescribe treatment accordingly.
