Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Zostavax Injection Affect The Pancreas And Glucose Level?
I had Zostavax injection Dec 29th. The next week I began having symptoms of flu, a deep cough with mucus, aching and arthralgia, some chills, coincidence?? Also my glucose level was good, around 120 even with Christmas food, but now it is averaging 135 and I am watching what I eat. Would Zostavax affect pancreas and glucose level?
Thanks for asking to HCM. Brief answer: Unlikely to affect pancreas and glucose level Detailed answer: According to me,the symptoms enlisted by you were most likely the result of zostavax vaccination but unlikely to affect the pancreas and glucose level as such.I strongly believe that If the vaccine had affected the pancreas, you might have already experienced symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fatty stools and elevated serum amylase and lipase levels.Rather shingles may cause pancreatitis if not appropriately treated and may affect the glucose levels. I would suggest you to consult a diabetologist for glucose tolerance test to assess your glycemic status, insulin resistance and for further care.Hope this information helps you.If any further questions, wish to answer.Take care.
