Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have I have a broken femur, a fractured patella, and broken foot that I suffered in a car accident. Intramedullary nailing was performed to repair the fractures. My question is how long will it take before I can walk, how long will it be before I can put weight on it, or how long before I can bend my knee?
We need to know if it was a compound fracture or not and what all the injuries you have had with x-rays and what all operations underwent and what is the progress of it.
If you are young, then it is very likely that within 3 months you will heal and be able to walk within 6 months. If you are elderly healing will be delayed especially if you are having diabetes or tuberculosis.
All this will hamper healing and in elderly recovery is also slow. So depending on the age group it can be from 6months to 1year. may be delayed in elderly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
