Does A Fractured Upper Arm Take Long To Heal?

Fell hard & broke my upper arm 17 days ago. In a sling. Sleeping in recliner. Last week s x-ray showed slight shift in bone. Is this normal? So afraid to move. Want to avoid surgery. 81 years old & otherwise very active/healthy. How long before I can drive again?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
If this is humerus neck fracture then it may take 6-8 weeks till it heals and during this time it should be immobilized in sling but you need to avoid some sudden movements, however, light mives can be done, just try to avoid falling and hits. You need to be patient and it will heal for sure within 6 weeks.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
