Hi I am 19 years old I receive a head injury when I was in 1st or 2nd grade a classmate was sitting on the monkey bars on the playground throwing rocks. I walked in the path of the rock and it struck me on the left side of my head. Last night I had a dream that I was back in the hospital with the doctor and he told me after this you re not gonna be the same I immediately woke up and started thinking if this was true. There are times when I m asked to do a simple task but I can t because I can t seem to figure out what to do it doesn t make sense to me. I want to know if my head injury from my past has affected me growing up.
Head injuries may cause long term cognitive impairment, but that is only if there is an associated brain lesion. Not every hit in the head causes brain damage (actually most of them don't). If at the time you had no neurological deficits, no seizures then chances are that you didn't sustain any brain lesion.
In any case that is something which is determined by brain imaging by CT or MRI, if imaging is done and was normal, then there is no reason to think there is a brain lesion. If no imaging was done, then it's hard to say, even if there are cognitive issues it can't be proven they are related
Hope I have answered your query.
