Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a curvature in my back that caused me to lean forward while standing and walking for about 4 years. In February this year I was unable to walk more than a few feet unassisted. I went to the ER when I could not turn my head or neck and they diagnosed me with a lung abscess and put me in the hospital on IV antibiotics for six weeks. During this time I tested positive for TB but the lung xray and scan showed nothing. The curve in my spine left me about two weeks into my treatment and has not come back. The doctor at Kaiser said he cant treat me until I cough up mucus 3 days in row after I wake up. I do not have anything to cough up. I was really trying to find any information that would link the lung abscess to the kyphosis because I was sure I found a link between them but now I see a link between TB and it so im really concerned.
I think what you are looking for is Pott's spine caused by TB. TB affects the lungs and intervertebral joints. It can invade almost any area of the body. It's a potentially serious disease. If you are unable to produce sputum then you should ask the doctor to do a quantiferon TB gold test or maybe a bronchoscopy may help. TB needs to be treated with a course of ATT.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
