Does A Patient With Creatinine Level Of 1.54 Require Dialysis?

Doctor, i have a question. My fathers creatinine lastweek was 1.37 and his doctor prescribed him meds for 1 week and said to recheck the creatinine after 1 week. But now when we rechecked it, it is 1.54. How come that it is higher than before? My point is why it is higher since he took meds? Is 1.54 possible for dialysis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
Creatinine level of 1.54 does not require dialysis.
It is just above high. High creatinine should be medically assessed by urologist.
And need other investigation like cystatin C, serum electrolyte, urinary protein for diagnosis of cause and foe proper management.
Dialysis will not only depend o creatinine level.
Other factors like potassium level, fluid overload, co-morbid Medical Conditions decide the dialysis decision.
Hope this may help you
