Does A Pelvic Pain Syndrome Cause An Enlarged Prostate?
My son-in-law has an enlarged prostate. He has pain in that area from a recent groin injury during weight lifting. He went to the urologist and the dr. did a urinalysis and told him it was negative for bacteria but gave him cipro for possible prostatitis. Could he have Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome from the injury and would that cause his prostate to become enlarged. Should they perform a culture and sensitivity on his urine to make sure there is truly no bacteria, however I know is could also be fungal or viral. What is your feelings about his condition. He just had this starting about a week ago.
These symptoms indicate in most cases prostate issues such as prostatitis or hypertrophy and rarely it may be a sign of STD infection. You should avoid intercourse for till symptoms persist and drink plenty of fluids.
If symptoms persist it would be good to do prostate ultrasound and check your PSA levels to rule out prostate tumor or hypertrophy and further treatment depends on these findings.
In most cases it can be controlled with medications but sometimes, in case of tumor, open surgery is required. And severe benign hypertrophy may be managed endoscopically so you should consult a urologist about appropriate options.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
