I had an abortion at 5 or 6 weeks on May 3rd and had an IUD (Mirena) placed right after. On Saturday, 6/21 I started bleeding really heavy and started seeing blood clots along with major cramping. On Sunday, 6/22 I was fine but my stomach was still hurting a bit. On Monday, 6/23 at 11:00am I bleed through my clothes for about an hour or 2 with hugh blood clots coming out. I went to the ER around 2:30pm that day and they said I my pregnancy test came up positive. They said I could of been having a miscarriage which seems weird because I never had any sexual intercourse since I missed my period in April 2014. Now they think I have a polyp in my uterus. Is this polyp associated with having the abortion? I so confused as to why I was bleeding so heavy almost 2 months after my abortion. Somebody please help me?
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Heavy bleeding two months after an abortion can be due to post abortal dysfunctional uterine bleeding, retained products of conception, or gestational trophoblastic disease,or any polyp in the uterus. However, if the urine pregnancy test is positive, then chances of retained products of conception and gestational trophoblastic disease is high. You should get an ultrasound and Doppler study done to confirm the diagnosis and get appropriate treatment timely. Hope you found the answer helpful. Regards Dr Deepti Verma OBGYN
