Does A Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy Surgery Cause Urinary Incontinence?

I have been diagnosed after biopsy and MRI to have prostate cancer TC1N0M0. Gleason 7. I am now facing with two options: RRP or Radiation. I am 71 years old and generally healthy. Can you shed some light as which is better option for improved mortality. Can RRP surgery preserve sexual nerves and reduce incontinance. Thanks a lot for your response. Doctor.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* There are definite chances of urinary incontinence in a patient of prostate cancer depending upon the sphincter and nerve involvement as well as surgical resection lines.
* The preference between RRP and radiation again is case dependent and has to be discussed with your treating surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
