Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I go to a methadone clinic and Have been told by multiple patients that their jobs have been fine and that they were drug tested by a mouth swab and methadone doesn t show up. Is this true? I found being honest of being in treatment when getting a new job makes me look irresponsible and an addict. Is methadone one of the drugs a swab checks
While standard drug tests only test for presence of opioids which include Morphine, heroin and Codeine. These tests cannot pick up Methadone. For detection of Methadone in the body system more specific and costly tests are needed. Specific tests have been developed for detecting the presence of Methadone in blood, urine, hair and saliva. Presence of Methadone in saliva can be detected within 10 minutes after ingestion of Methadone and its presence can be detected up to many days to be precise up to 10 days.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
