Does A Sternum Injury With Chest Pain Need ER Admission?

I think my mother has broke or cracked her sternum. I am in Tx and she is in Fla. She said she was bent over to get clothes out of a dryer and heard a crack. Said her chest now hurts when she moves. She is 82 years old and lives alone. Do you think she should call 911 and get help to the emergency room? She wears a one pc girdle and I told her not to take it off because she may then not be able to move at all!

Hello
Although the treatment for non complicated fracture rib and sternum is by rest,immobilisation by rib belt along with pain killer ibuprofen,I would recommend a visit to ER if possible.
