Hi,
Adenoids are glands at the back of the throat which can protect the body from bacterial or viral infections, but they sometimes become infected and enlarged due to infections, allergies or other reasons and cause breathing or sleeping difficulties. In such situations, a doctor may advise to remove the adenoids. Enlarged adenoids are removed in a surgical procedure that is known as
adenoidectomy.
Possible side effects and risks of adenoidectomy include- bleeding at the site of removal, difficulties in swallowing, feeling of pain during deglutition, nasal blockage due to inflammation and swelling after surgery of adenoids, throat ache, earache, pyrexia due to post operative infection, nausea and vomiting,
bad breath, change in voice,
anesthesia induced complications, risk of developing allergies, respiratory problems like asthma,
pneumonia etc. If any of these post adenoidectomy complications persist for long, then you should inform the doctor first for
medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
