Is Surgery Advisable For Adenoids With Breathing Difficulties?
Dear Dr,My 20month old son has been having cold continously for about 3weeks.We visited ENT Dr last week and had x-ray done. The report shows enlarged adenoids which has thin out the airways to the nose.He said this caused his breathing through the mouth and tossing for better sleep position and recommended surgery.Kindly advise
Adenoid can pose recurrent colds in childhood. But surgery at this early age is not recommended unless adenoids is the cause of severe obstructive sleep apnea. Meanwhile, you can use steroid nasal sprays for a month or two to look for any improvement. Steroid nasal sprays many times offer a great relief from adenoids especially in kids.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
