Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does An Elevated Total Cell Count Indicate Cancer?
Total cell count on bronchial lavage is 6352. Had Bronchoscopy due to swollen lymphs on both sides of chest which showed on MRI and CY. No lung problems. Been having dizziness and excessive white matter on brain. Have arthritis but that s all. Could this high cell count mean cancer
as physician I would exclude an infection first, that may give enlarged lymphnodes as MRI is suggesting. What about CRP? Moreover, I suppose that looking to bronchial aspirate, there were not cancer cells. Thus, we must first exclude an ongoing infection, and only if this cough does not stop, then I would do other tests (high resolution CT scan or even PET). However, although Ithink it is remote in your case, there are some tumors characterized by a superimposed infection.
Take care and let me know,
