Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does An Increase In PTH From 170 To 290 Increase Risk Of Mortality?
If my PTH jumps from 170 to 290 how does that increase my risk of mortality and does that make my situation more emergent. Keep in mind I m symptomatic with cognitive dysfunction. Extreme lethargy. Prolonged QT. Hypokalemic. 32 yrs old with RA. I m a nurse and need my brain so I don t kill my patients.
Parathyroid hormone has been considered to be a complimentary biomarker in heart failure. PTH is also considered as a uremic toxin which may inflict damage on multiple organs.
Increased parathyroid hormone levels are independently associated with several inflammatory markers and so are associated with increased mortality rate in general older population. Vitamin D supplementation has a suppressive effect on PTH levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Prabhash Verma,
