Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dear Doctor, I have been having low testosterone level for the past 6-7 years and currently i am using Androgel. I used to be on proviron before. When can i stop using this Androgel or do i have to use this life long. Also, can Androgel elevate liver enzymes (ie ALT ). Pls advise
Hi, dear I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. Androgen does not cause liver damage or and elevated ALT level.
ALT is elevated in liver damage. Most common cause are viral infection, alcohol, drugs or toxin. If you don't have other cause then you should check your ALT level and monitor it. If it increased then consult your doctor. You don't need to use androgel life long. It depends on your symptoms.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
