Hello,
Thanks fot the query.
As you have mentioned , the peripheral blood smear of your son s blood shows anisopoikilocytosis. Asnisocytosis means variation in red blood cell(RBC) size. This may be abnormally larger or smaller RBC. As in the present case , the report also mentions microcytosis, this means that the red blood cell is smaller in size than usual.
Now, this is seen when the synthesis of Hb is defective. there may be many conditions associated with it .However the presence of target cells points almost definitely towards a
hemoglobinopathy known as Thallesemia.
Now, this disease runs in Families. So a very important hint to establish the diagnosis is presence of Family history in parents or siblings even if , in milder form.In severe cases, specific facial features also atrract attention.
You havent mentioned any symptoms that your child may be having. Symptoms such as easy Fatiguibility, irritability, any history of long illness , irritability are some of the questions i would want you to ponder upon and talk to your clinician( a Clinical
Hematologist preferably)
This disorder may be of milder form or severe and may require frequent
blood transfusion.
You can continue with
orofer syrup but you should also contact your physician to establish the definite diagnosis and start the treatment . Another important suggestion would be to get the Complete Blood Count( To know about the hb , MCV,MCH etc) and
Liver function Test( to see the
bilirubin levels and presence of
Jaundice)
Do follow up with the reports.
Thanking you,
