Does Antidepressant Affect Liver?

Hi,

I have been on Paxtine for depression for 10 years. Last year I had a blood test to discover why I was feeling so tired. It was discovered that I had raised liver levels. I stopped drinking my nightly couple of glasses of wine for 3mths and was retested but no change. A month ago, I read on the internet that antidepressants can affect liver. How true is this? I have been slowly trying to wean myself off Paxtine but have relapsed into severe depression. What should I do- continue weaning or go back on the Paxtine? Katrina

Yes, most of them affect liver and raise liver enzymes so this is probable cause of it but also fatty liver or hepatitis may be considered if symptoms persist despite stopping antidepressant.
