Does Birth Control Cause Excessive Vaginal Discharge And Burning Post Urination?
Hello..I have been on birth control for about a year now and about two months in I started with reoccurring utis. I would take antibiotics and I was washing after sexual activity and cleansing and wiping right and they are still reoccurring. The only thing is now they aren t showing up positive for utis just white blood cells and I don t really have uti feeling I have excessive discharge and burning only after I pee not during. Could my birth control be causing this? Or is it something else?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Birth control pills are not known to cause urinary tract infection (UTI). UTI are common in women of reproductive age group. UTI can be prevented by passing urine after every sexual act as it will wash out bacteria from the urinary tract. Pus cells up to 5 per high power filed are not indicative of UTI, however, number higher than this is suggestive of UTI. Excessive discharge can be due to vaginal infection. I suggest you to get the discharge examined to detect any infection. In case infection is detected, appropriate antibiotic will be required to treat the infection. Again the symptom of discharge and burning is not due to birth control pills.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
