Does Bladder Infection Cause Confusions In 83 Years Old?
My mother is 83 and was rush in the hospital 6 days ago.She is very confused and not herself at all,we know that Dememtia is present but the confusion.The hospital is saying she has a bladder infection that s where the confusion comes from...Please is this so?
Hello Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 83 years old mother is admitted in hospital .She is in a stage of confusion and has been diagnosed it to be due to UTI.
The state of confusion may be most likely to be due to imbalance of serum electrolytes .and most likely to be due to low serum Sodium levels which is common in elderly patient with UTI.
Please get her Serum Electrolytes tests done to confirm the diagnosis .
Do not worry this will get resolved within 4-5 days.
with medicines for UTI and Sodium given intravenously..
