Does Boric Acid During Pregnancy Induce Ventricular Septal Defect In Child?
I am 21 weeks pregnant and recently found out the baby has a large ventricular septal defect and PA. Could using one boric acid suppository during the first few weeks of pregnancy have caused this? Also what is the risk that these defects are associated with down s syndrome?
No it very very unlikely that boric acid has caused the heart defect . Most heart defects in children are associated with other conditions like Downs or Edwards syndrome. So it is important that you have a definitive test like amniocentesis done to rule out chromosomal anomalies like Downs. Also other defects such as spine or skull defects ,urogenital tract defects could also co exist.I would advise you to consult a fetal medicine expert who would guide you further with this and would also do a detailed scan for further evaluation .
Hope this helps . Kind regards.
