I am a 42 year old female and about a week ago I noticed a small knot on the lower outer quadrant of my left breast. It is about the size of a bb, is immobile and has associated tenderness at times. Family history of breast cancer includes aunts and great aunts on both sides but no 1st generation history. How urgent is a mammogram or should I monitor for a month to see if there is any changes in size, tenderness, etc. I had a partial hysterectomy 3 years ago so I no longer have a menstrual cycle and have not noticed any other changes in my breast.
Hello Kim;
welcome to HealthcareMagic
Since you are 42 yrs and have had a family history of breast cancer you should not ignore the lump in breast.If you want you can wait for a week or two to see if the size of the lump is increasing or decreasing and then get a mammogram done;but in the mean time get it examined by a Gynaec for the lump.Early diagnosis is better and with a history of cancer i guess you should follow it up as early as you can.
Thanks
