I had spotting this morning (coffee colour), i've never had spotting before, and my period is due today. When I have sex, i always use condom and make sure afterwards it's not broken and it hasn't slipped off. Should I get a pregnancy test? is it too early to test?
If you use condom with care chances of pregnancy are very very low. I suggest that you wait for the period. The spotting may be due to a condition called luetinised unruptured follicle [ the follicle does not rupture and continues to produce progesterone so menses may be delayed] leading to hormonal imbalance, or it may be due to local cervical and uterine causes like erosions or polyp [non cancerous tumors] of the cervix.
I suggest that you wait for your menses for the next 7 days. If they do not come, do a urine pregnancy test with the first morning urine sample. If this is negative you will need further investigation.
Do not worry, it may just be a delay of day or two due to minor hormonal disturbances. Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
