Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Capsule Endoscopy Cause Abdominal Pain And Cramping?
My sister is having a very painful episode of ramps in her gut or intestines. She swallowed a camera pill Friday so they can pinpoint where she is having a slow bleed. Although she has been to the bathroom several times she doesn t feel like she has passed the camera. Could it be stuck? Could it have caused this cramping or irritated her intestine? She had radiation therapy for endometrial cancer several years ago and it has left her with colitis or irritable bowel syndrome
* The symptoms of abdomen pain and cramping are in concern with underlying pathology of colitis or irritable bowel syndrome and the camera pill is not responsible for such effect neither it has been stuck anywhere.
* She requires supportive care with either intravenous or oral medications for spasm relief with or without antibiotics as metronidazole or else as per the consultant choice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
