Does Chemotherapy Affect The Physical Activities Of A Toddler?
Hi. My son is 2 years old started chemo for leukemia about 7 weeks ago. I am extremely worried that he just sleeps all the time, not interested in anything just wants to lay in bed.does not speak unless,he wants to eat, can hardly walk anymore...when we want to take him off the bed,he screams.is this normal
Hello and welcome to HCM, Leukemia leads to reduction in normal blood cells and platelets. This reduction in normal blood cells leads to weakness and lethargy due to anemia. Chemotherapeutic drugs are strong chemicals which slowly kill the cancerous cells and allow the normal cells to replace the diseased bone marrow. Thus, the child will regain strength and normal activities once the normal cell population replaces the diseased bone marrow. Till then you may allow your child to rest as much as possible.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
