Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i chew tabacco for a long time now..i started in the marine corp, but i love to sing and im very good actually but it seems to me that i lose my vocal range quickly, chewing is the only bad habit i have, my question is can that be the reason for the vocal damage and if i stop chewing will my singing voice improve?
Tobacco chewing is unlikely to cause effect on vocal cord, although it may cause other issues including mouth cancer. Hoarseness of sound / vocal cord issues in regular singers may suggest over strain on vocal cord, edema or nodule over that. Kindly get it checked by an ENT specialist
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
