Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am wondering about the side effects from Cipralex? I have been on 20mg a day for close on 2 years now but for the past 5-6 months have had really bad vaginal thrush? Could you please tell me if it is related to this medication! I have reached the end of my tether.
Thank you for the query. Cipralex is a brand of the generic drug Escitalopram. It is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class, used for depression and anxiety disorder. The side effects of Escitalopram are headache, nausea, insomnia, dizziness, tremor, disturbed appetite, decreased libido, altered bowel habits, dry mouth and fatigue. There have been rare case reports of Vaginal Candidiasis, associated with escitalopram. I would advise you to get your blood sugar levels tested and check Urine for routine examination. Local clotrimazole cream application may help in this situation. Personal hygiene needs to be maintained. If the problem persists you may consult your doctor.
Hope this helps you.
