Does Circumcision Have Any Effect On HIV Transmission?
Hi Doc, I had unprotected sex with a female month and a half ago and few days after the incident I feel pain around my penis so I consult with a respected doctor. He told me that I need to have a circumcision surgery. I got the surgery done a month ago and the doctor believes that I am properly healed (still sometime itchy due to contact from clothing). I am worry about the possibility of HIV transmission after the unprotected sex and does the circumcision surgery have an effect on it? I did some research online, the window period for nearly conclusive HIV test results is 3 months. Is there any treatment during this waiting period? Thank you for your help in-advance.

Circumcision has no effect on HIV transmission . Normal Elisa test for HIV to come positive , it has to be done at least after 3 months of exposure . But there is another test called Western Blot which can detect HIV much earlier , You can get this test done .
Post Exposure medications are available , but since its been 1 month it's of no use to you . So get western blot test for HIV and revert back .
Henceforth use Condoms when you have sex .
