Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can you get a stiff neck from having a cold....? Typical cold although it would be considered a bad cold rather than an easy one. Besides nasal congestion, headache, scratchy throat and fatigue, pinkeye was involved and now a pretty severe stiff neck for 2 days. No fever.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have stiffness in the neck. Well it seems to me that the symptoms are probably due to viral infection like herpes simplex . sometimes also spread to upper respiratory track infection. Usually such infection go away by its own in few days and till then you can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain along with anti pyrectic. Also apply warm compresses to neck and do warm saline or betadine rinses . If condition doesn't get well then consult general practitioner for proper examination. Doctor may order blood test along with taking history . Doctor may prescribe antiviral like acyclovir along with anti inflammatory and medicine to relieve the other symptoms along with multivitamin . Doctor may also refer you to oral pathologist for oral infection.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
