Does Colonoscopy Cause Diarrhea And Stomach Bloating?
I am a 37 yr old female. Had an abnormal pap, and had my coloposcopy done this past Wed. I had bad cramping the night after that has seemed to progress instead of dissipate. The past few day i have had horrible bloating after eating only small amounts, and terrible bouts of diarrhea all night long. Also chills and the sweats. I do have a history of diverticultis, but have not had a flare up in years. My question is could these symptoms possibly be related to the colposcopy, or is that completely unlikely? Not sure to call the GYN or the GI! The pain is exacerbated by the pressure from the bloating and it s become difficult to eat. Any guidance/input would be helpful. I d like to avoid the ER unless i m sure that it is an emergency.

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Symptoms are unlikely due to colonoscopy. 2. Possible gastritis or excessive bacteria due to which you are having stomach bloating. 3. Meet a gastroenterologist. If diarrhea is severe, its an emergency. Take plenty of fluids along with yoghurt to improve gut bacteria. Chew food well and avoid excessive nondigestable fiber for a short period until, everything improves. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
