Does Complete Withdrawal From Gabapentin Have The Risk Of Seizures?

I am in the process of weaning off the remaining 500 mg of gabapentin. So far I have successfully weaned off of 700 mg. I wean down 100 mg every three weeks as instructed by my doctor. I also take magnesium supplements to ease with the withdrawals. my question is when I finally discontinue with the last 100 mg do I risk having a seizure?

Hello,

Gabapentin withdrawal does not cause seizures. If you experience recurrent seizure episodes, better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated to rule out other possibilities.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
