Does Consumption Of 25 Mcg Of Synthyroid Cause Side Effect?

My father started 25 mcg of Synthyroid yesterday and todya he is short of breath with conversation. He is 75 years old and has hypertension controlled with diet. Is this a side effect that will go away after awhile or should he call his doctor s office?

I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERNS.
THYROXINE CAN INCREASE HEART RATE AND INCREASE CARDIAC WORK.ALTHOUGH 25 MCG IS A SMALL DOSE ,THYROXINE MAY CAUSE SUCH SIDE EFFECTS IN ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS.
IF HE WAS MY PATIENT,I WILL STOP THE TABLET AT PRESENT.AND INVESTIGATE TO RULE OUT UNDERLYING HEART DISEASE.TESTS LIKE ELECTROCARDIOGRAM WILL HELP.ONCE HEART DISEASE IS RULED OUT,THYROXINE CAN SAFELY BE STARTED.
I WILL ADVISE YOU TO CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN AND DISCUSS FURTHER APPROACH.
I HOPE MY ADVISE BE OF HELP FOR YOUR FATHER.
